Middx v Glamorgan: T20 Head-to-Head

25 Jun 2021 | Cricket

Glamorgan travel to Radlett for their next match in the Vitality Blast with their T20 contest against Middlesex scheduled to get underway at 1430 on Sunday, 27 June (writes Andrew Hignell)

This will be the first time that Glamorgan have played a T20 match at the pretty Hertfordshire ground, having previously played one List A and one County Championship contest at The Brunton Memorial Ground, which is surrounded by the homes of several celebrities including Simon Cowell, the reality TV judge and producer. It was Middlesex however who had the X Factor in the List A game at the ground in May 2017 as they won by 16 runs, with the Championship match during June 2019 ending all square as the weather played a decisive hand on the final afternoon as Middlesex were looking to set up a run chase.

Returning to their encounter in the T20 competition, Glamorgan beat Middlesex by 21 runs last week at Sophia Gardens and, as the list below shows, they have also been victorious in their previous four matches on Middlesex soil, all of which have taken place previously at Old Deer Park in Richmond.

15 June 2010 at Richmond - Middlesex won by 84 runs
14 June 2011 at Richmond - Glamorgan won by 4 wickets
3 July 2014 at Richmond - Glamorgan won by 6 wickets
8 July 2016 at Richmond - Glamorgan won by 9 wickets
5 August 2018 at Richmond - Glamorgan won by 7 wickets

Ruaidhri Smith produced a Man-of-the-Match performance at Richmond in 2018, taking 4/6 as Middlesex plummeted to 20-4. Timm van der Gugten also claimed 4/31 before Colin Ingram made an unbeaten 46 to see Glamorgan to their modest target.

The Welsh county won in July 2016 after a fine opening salvo from Shaun Tait as the Australian quick bowler removed both of the Middlesex openers. The visiting attack kept the Middlesex batsmen in check and although Eoin Morgan made a forthright fifty, the target of 145 proved insufficient as Mark Wallace struck an unbeaten 69 as Glamorgan completed victory in the 17th over.

The Welsh county had also been victorious by six wickets in 2014 after Jim Allenby posted a century during an opening stand of 136 with Jacques Rudolph which laid the foundations of Glamorgan’s match-winning total, whilst the game at Richmond in 2011 was a contest completely dominated by the spin bowlers with Dean Cosker taking 3/11 as the home side were bundled out for just 102, before Alviro Petersen struck a match-winning 72.
