Following a rigorous recruitment process, Glamorgan Cricket is pleased to announce that Mojeid Ilyas has joined the Club as our new Diversity Champion and Talent Scout.

The role will see Mojeid work closely with diverse communities across Wales to grow the game and seek and identify new talent outside the mainstream cricket network, as well as coach on the Glamorgan Pathway.

From Grangetown in Cardiff, Mojeid has strong ties with the Club game in Wales. He joined Welsh Asians Cricket Club, now called Llandaff Cricket Club, before playing for Cardiff Cricket Club, St. Fagan’s Cricket Club and Newport Cricket Club.

Mojeid represented Wales at age grade level and was then selected to play for the Glamorgan Academy. He has also featured for Wales Minor Counties, Cardiff MCCU and the Glamorgan 2nd XI.

Mojeid will fulfil the role alongside his work with Cricket Wales where he is their Diverse Communities Cricket Development Officer in Cardiff and Newport.

In that position, he has worked across a number of community initiatives, including Street Cricket, Interfaith Cricket, Asylum-seeker and Refugee Cricket, as well as Women’s and Girls’ Cricket.

Recently he launched Glamorgan Cricket and Cricket Wales’ Ramadan Tapeball League. The late-night sessions ran throughout April and allowed Muslims observing Ramadan to play cricket.

On accepting the position, Mojeid Ilyas, said: “It’s a real privilege to be given the opportunity to work at Glamorgan Cricket as their Diversity Champion & Talent Scout.

“Glamorgan is a Club I’ve been in love with ever since I went to watch my first game over a decade ago.

“The opportunity to work with my local community and other communities around Wales in making the Club a place that is accessible to all people and ensuring the pathway itself is fair and inclusive is something that I am really passionate about.”

Community and Development Manager at Glamorgan Cricket, Mark Frost, said: “We are delighted to appoint Mojeid as our Diversity Champion and Talent Scout.

“Mojeid has extensive knowledge of the Club game and has already successfully delivered a range of community initiatives through his work with Cricket Wales.

“Filling this role is an important step in Glamorgan’s ongoing EDI work to make cricket in Wales more inclusive and accessible for everyone.”
