Glamorgan youngsters Owen Morgan, Jack Murphy and Nick Selman have been named in a 12-man squad to face Sussex in the Specsavers County Championship, starting tomorrow (Saturday).
The trio are all included after impressing in the Glamorgan Second XI, with Australian-born Selman braced to open the batting for the first time since securing a three-year deal with the Welsh county.
Selman, 20, has hit three centuries for Steve Watkin’s side this season, most recently against Somerset at Newport. His only first-class appearance to date came in Glamorgan’s washed-out draw with Worcestershire in early May.
Welsh left-arm spinner Morgan, who was recently registered to play first-class, could also make his Glamorgan debut in the match. The bowling allrounder who has played with much success for Pontarddulais CC and Glamorgan age-group teams, made his first-class debut in 2014 for Cardiff MCCU, besides playing for Glamorgan against in a pre-season friendly against Worcestershire at Kidderminster.
Has played regularly for Glamorgan 2nd XI and Wales Minor Counties since 2012, for whom he has been a consistent wicket-taker in 2016.
Murphy, who has played two first-class games for Cardiff MCCU, is also vying for a Glamorgan debut. The 20-year-old hit a maiden Second XI century last month with 139 against Essex at Bishop’s Stortford.
South African big-hitter Colin Ingram is again rested for the four-day format, while Chris Cooke, Andrew Salter and Dean Cosker all sit out.
