Morris Relishing Biggest Game In Over A Decade

Glamorgan\'s Chief Executive and Director of Cricket Hugh Morris is relishing the home quarter-final against Yorkshire on Thursday August 11, billing the match as the Welsh county\'s biggest game in Cardiff for more than a decade.

Glamorgan take on Yorkshire Vikings at The SSE SWALEC in the last eight tie and Morris was exciting to see a bumper crowd cheer the Welsh county onto glory after a stellar T20 campaign so far this season.

"I think we’ve generally played really well in white-ball cricket this season," said Morris. "In T20 cricket we’ve played consistently well all year. We’ve beaten a number of very good sides: Surrey home and away very convincingly, Middlesex away and had a very convincing win against Somerset.

"We feel as though we’ve thoroughly deserved our home quarter-final. We’ve played good cricket on some really good pitches here at The SSE SWALEC this year.

"We’ve won the majority of our games here and we want to see a really good crowd. It’s a great opportunity for the people of South Wales to come and support Glamorgan in our biggest game from over 10 years here (in Cardiff)."

Glamorgan Cricket have reduced their prices for the quarter-final, with adult tickets available for £10 and under 17s for £5. The match will see Glamorgan's 2016 stars – Colin Ingram, David Lloyd and Timm van der Gugten to name a few – pit themselves against the likes of Adil Rashid, Liam Plunkett and David Willey, who all featured in England's World T20 final versus West Indies earlier this year.

The Welsh county have also revealed that Aussie paceman Shaun Tait will remain with the squad for the quarter-final. Tait has taken five wickets in his five games for Glamorgan since replacing Dale Steyn midway through the campaign – including a match-winning 2/17 against Middlesex at Richmond.

"There have been several important ingredients in us winning games," added Morris. "One has been Colin Ingram, who’s an exceptional talent and somebody who’s been at the top of his game, but also our strike bowlers.

"Obviously we had Dale Steyn and now Shaun Tait, along with Timm van der Gugten who has made a really good impression. And the rest of the bowlers have chipped in really well. It’s been a really good all-round effort.

"Dale’s not available but we’re lucky to have Shaun, who has been performing well for us and will be an important cog for us in the quarter-final."

Morris remained confident Glamorgan could grab the all-important win, with a place at T20 Finals Day at stake. The Welsh county have not reached the last four of the T20 competition since 2004.

He added: "Of course we can win it. It’s a difficult obstacle. Yorkshire have been the form team in county cricket over the last couple of years, but we’ve beaten some strong First Division teams this year and we’re in a with a great shout.

"Robert (Croft) is settling into his role as Head Coach and he has the respect of the players, as a coach. I know he’s going to be willing us onto victory against Yorkshire."
