The programme of popular winter talks in the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket has been confirmed for January to March 2017.
With 2017 being the 40th anniversary of Glamorgan’s first-ever appearance in a knockout final at Lord’s , Mike Llewellyn – a member of the Welsh county’s team which appeared in the Gillette Cup Final at Lord’s – will be the guest speaker on Wednesday, February 15th, recalling events from September 1977 and how during the game against Middlesex, he nearly struck a ball over the historic pavilion.
2017 will also be the 50th anniversary of county cricket at Sophia Gardens so on Wednesday, January 18th, there will be an illustrated talk by Dr. Andrew Hignell looking back at the move from Cardiff Arms Park where Glamorgan staged first-class cricket between 1921and 1966, and the first summer of county cricket at Sophia Gardens. The evening will also include some previously unseen film footage of cricket at the Arms Park in 1966.
In mid-March, there will also be “An Evening with Aneurin Donald” when the young batsman will look back on his record-breaking summer in 2016, including his 234 against Derbyshire at Colwyn Bay, as well as reflecting on his fledgling career with Glamorgan and the fresh challenges ahead during 2017.
