One-Day Cup Final Preview: Glamorgan v Yorkshire

12 Sep 2025 | Cricket

Glamorgan will face Yorkshire in the final of the Metro Bank Women's One-Day Cup League 2 at Visit Worcestershire New Road on Sunday 14 September, with the game starting at 10:30AM.

After an impressive first season for Glamorgan Women, who reached the Vitality Blast Finals Day in July and the Metro Bank One-Day Cup in September, the team will look to win their first piece of silverware against a formidable opponent in Yorkshire. With both teams set to go up to Tier 1 in 2026 and 2027 respectively, the final in Worcester promises to be an enthralling contest between bat and ball.

Glamorgan head to the final with only one loss in the 50-over competition, finishing 2nd in the table behind Middlesex. Yorkshire, on the other hand, finished 4th in the group stage but make the final after defeating the table-toppers in the semi-final.

Glamorgan's Road to Final

Winning their first-ever game, at Sophia Gardens against Sussex Sharks, Glamorgan's captain Bethan Gammon, in charge of the side in Lauren Parfitt's absence, got a 57-ball 72 in a rain-shortened 25-over game, helping Glamorgan to get a big on their first-ever game 53 runs. The interim captain continued her form in Bristol, scoring a sensational 129 not out against Gloucestershire. Gemma Porter's 3-14 in 8 overs gave Glamorgan a massive 227-run win at the Seat Unique Stadium.

A trip to Derbyshire followed next, where Daisy Jeanes' explosive century gave the Welsh county another big win, this time by 9 wickets, with as many as 13 overs remaining in a 214-run chase. After the Vitality Blast break, Glamorgan headed to Neath for their 5th game of the One-Day Cup campaign, where loanee Abbey Freeborn scored a stunning century on Glamorgan debut, as the Welsh county beat Leicestershire Foxes by 125 runs thanks to an excellent display of spin-bowling from off-break bowler Gemma Porter and leg-spinner Nicole Reid.

An away win at Yorkshire followed, as a complete team performance got the better of the Leeds-based county at Weetwood. Captain Lauren Parfitt got her first century of the season away at Kent, as Glamorgan beat the home side by 6 wickets after the Welsh county's spinners put on a show again in the 50over competition. This was followed by a sensational 10-wicket victory at Worcestershire, as Eve Jackson and Gemma Porter picked up three wickets each to reduce the host's score to 116, which Lauren Parfitt and Abbey Freeborn chased without breaking a sweat.

Finally, after the washed out game against Northants Steelbacks at Sophia Gardens, Glamorgan met the 3rd-placed Steelbacks in the semi-final at the Home of Welsh Cricket. Loanee Bethan Ellis' patient knock of 70 guided Glamorgan to 209, which the Welsh outfit defended successfully after Nicole Reid's career-best figures and a first-ever 5-wicket-haul for any Glamorgan Women's bowler.
