Glamorgan return to Specsavers County Championship action on Wednesday, with Northamptonshire the visitors to Swansea\'s St Helen\'s Ground – and there\'s one opposition batsman who has been catching the eye with his performances in recent weeks.
Ben Duckett, the Northants opener and occasional wicket-keeper, has been making waves ever since his 282 not out for the county at the outset of the four-day campaign. That innings touted Duckett's name as a potential England candidate.
Since, the 21-year-old has been scoring heavily across all three formats and earned a call-up to the England Lions. Duckett then thrust his name into the minds of the selectors for the England ODI side with an unbeaten 163 for the Lions against Pakistan A, followed by an astonishing 220 not out against the same opposition, in a record-stand with Daniel Bell-Drummond.
Retired England batsman James Taylor has called for Duckett to be included in England's ODI squad at some point this season. And Duckett's first-class average of 40.93, coupled with a List A average of 56.79, makes for impressive reading.
At the tender age of 21, Duckett has a bright future ahead of him and has already established himself as a crucial cog in Northamptonshire's side. On a St Helen's ground which has fairly short boundaries and can be beneficial to the batting side, Glamorgan will have to ensure they remove Duckett early on.
