Glamorgan CCC have bolstered their bowling attack for the start of 2017 by confirming a short term loan of the highly promising Middlesex seamer Harry Podmore for a second successive season.
Podmore joined Glamorgan at the start of 2016 and played two first-class matches for the Welsh county, making his debut in Glamorgan colours against Kent at Canterbury and bowled impressively against Gloucestershire taking 3/59 at The Brightside Ground.
After returning to Middlesex he claimed four wickets on his Middlesex Championship debut against Somerset that played a part in a thrilling victory, and made two further first-class appearances as the Lord's outfit went on to clinch the Division 1 title, as well as playing in seven T20 Blast games last season.
The 22-year-old featured for Middlesex against MCC last week taking five wickets in the match as the County Champions won the season opener in Dubai.
Podmore will be available for an initial period of a month including three County Championship games for Glamorgan, which begins with the trip to Northampton on Friday 7 April before the first Championship home match of the season against Worcestershire the following Friday.
“Harry proved himself a reliable option on loan last season and has continued to take wickets for Middlesex," said Hugh Morris, Glamorgan Chief Executive and Director of Cricket.
“He’s developed from working with the England fast bowling programme to become a young, but high calibre fast bowler who will add depth to our seam attack.
“Although we’ve added Marchant de Lange to the squad, we’ve suffered some injuries to our bowlers with Ruaidhri Smith, Graham Wagg, Timm Van Der Gugten and Michael Hogan all missing pre-season fixtures and unavailable for tomorrow’s game, so the bowling department needs strengthening in the short term.
“Once again we are thankful to Angus Fraser and Middlesex CCC for allowing Harry to come back to Glamorgan on loan."
Harry Podmore said, “Glamorgan gave my first chance in first-class cricket and I’m grateful to them for giving me another opportunity to play red ball cricket. Clearly with the amount of fast bowlers at Middlesex it can be hard to get a game.
“However, it’s a good young bunch at Glamorgan and they made me feel so welcome last time, which made my decision to come back easier for me. It’s a month loan initially, but if there’s still injuries and if I’m performing well I’d be happy to stay on longer."
