Prem Sisodiya and members of the Community team at Glamorgan Cricket visited Grange Gardens last week for a cricket-themed event with local children and their families as part of the Winter of Well-being scheme.

The event, attended by young people and their families from the Grangetown area of Cardiff, was part of the ‘Cricket is the game for me, me and me’ exhibition, currently based in the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket at the headquarters of Glamorgan County Cricket Club at Sophia Gardens. The exhibition is part of the Winter of Well-being Scheme overseen by Amgueddfa Cymru and the Welsh Museum Federation which , with the generous support of the Welsh Government and celebrates the diversity of participants in the summer game across Wales, especially the involvement of families and young people under the age of 25.

The event for the 40 youngsters and their families began with a talk in the Green Room at Grange Gardens from members of the Community team at Glamorgan Cricket about the global family of cricket. They then looked, with their friends and family, at a series of displays from the ‘Cricket is the game for me, me and me’ exhibition including poster display which, as pupils at Fitzalan High School, Lansdowne Primary and Grangetown Primary, they had created themselves following recent visits by the Community team to their schools.

The youngsters then went outdoors at Grange Gardens and took part on one of the lawns in a series of skills drills sessions and games of softball cricket with Glamorgan’s community coaches before participating in a Q and A session with Prem Sisodiya, the 23 year-old left-arm spinner who was born in Grangetown and attended Ninian Park Primary School.

“It was wonderful listening to the young boys and girls share their passion for cricket,” said Andrew Hignell, the Club’s Heritage and Education Co-ordinator who oversaw the event and hosted the Q and A session with Prem. “There were some great questions for Prem from the youngsters, and they were enthralled listening to him talk about his journey from the playgrounds of Grangetown to the first-class cricket grounds around the country.”

“Prem also spoke about his recent visit to a spin bowling camp in India, as well as his personal goals for 2022 and Glamorgan’s targets for the coming summer. Overall, the event was a huge success and we look forward to welcoming the youngsters and their families to matches at Sophia Gardens in the coming months.”
