Prostate Cymru announced as Glamorgan Cricket’s official 2025 charity partner

Glamorgan County Cricket Club is delighted to announce Prostate Cymru as our official charity partner for the 2025 season, strengthening a relationship that has grown in recent years.

The partnership follows Prostate Cymru’s involvement in various Glamorgan events, including their return to the Gnoll Game and a successful charity day during last year’s T20 Blast.

A personal connection to this cause comes through Andrew Hignell, Glamorgan’s scorer since 2004. Andrew was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2024, and following first class treatment at Velindre NHS Trust is back to work as he continues his recovery journey.

Speaking on the importance of the partnership, Mark Frost, Glamorgan Community Manager, said, “We are honoured to play a small part in helping Prostate Cymru spread the word on their vital work. As a Club we are committed to maximising the partnership by amplifying key health messages and raising funds with Glamorgan supporters and Sophia Gardens visitors.

“Andrew is just one of many powerful examples of how timely discovery can make a huge difference in any cancer battle. In working closely with Prostate Cymru this season, it’s our hope that many others will take similar proactive steps.”

Owen Pugsley, Prostate Cymru Head of Commercial Operations added, "Glamorgan Cricket has an incredible audience that we’ve had the privilege of engaging with through bucket collections and our awareness van at games.

“Our charity partners, including Jellyfish, Blake Morgan, Route Media, Swansea Building Society and others are all strong supporters of the club, making this partnership a natural fit. With our shared commitment to the community, we’re excited to see how this collaboration grows and the positive impact we can make together."

One of the standout moments of the season will take place on June 6th when Glamorgan and Prostate Cymru will ‘Turn the Stadium Blue’ for a dedicated Vitality Blast takeover fixture against Essex.

The event will raise awareness for prostate cancer while engaging fans in various activities, including an upcoming competition where supporters will have the chance to win 10 tickets to the game in conjunction with Jellyfish Business Solutions.

A key initiative of the partnership will take place on May 11th, when Prostate Cymru will offer PSA testing in the Pyramid Hygiene Lounge.

The PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test is a simple blood test that measures the level of PSA in the blood, which can help detect early signs of prostate cancer.

While an elevated PSA level does not always indicate cancer, it can be an early warning sign, prompting further medical evaluation if necessary.

Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in Wales, and early detection significantly improves treatment outcomes.

Supporters will be able to access the testing via a dedicated link with a code, ensuring as many people as possible can take advantage of this potentially life-saving screening.

Glamorgan Cricket is also committed to raising funds for Prostate Cymru throughout the season, with one of the key fundraising events being their iconic golf day on Monday 18 August at Celtic Manor.

This partnership exemplifies the power of sport in driving awareness and making a real difference in the fight against prostate cancer.
