A pre-booked walk around The SSE SWALEC, using QR coded information panels, is now available for visitors to - and spectators at - the home of Glamorgan Cricket in Cardiff.

The informative walk around the stadium, developed in conjunction with Walk for Health, Outdoor Cardiff, the Cardiff Council Parks Department and Historypoints.org will allow visitors to undertake a leisurely stroll around the home of Glamorgan County Cricket Club, and discover a range of fascinating facts about the stadium, information about the game of cricket and the history of Wales’ only professional club, as well as learning about the long history of the Sophia Gardens area which in 1859 became the first public park in Wales as local landowner, the Marquess of Bute, addressed the need for healthy recreational facilities for residents and visitors in Cardiff.

Sadie Lewis, the Walk for Health and Outdoor Cardiff Co-ordinator said “The self-guided trail at the home of Glamorgan CCC will provide a brilliant mix of rich history and physical activity. The trail can give communities and visitors the opportunity to be active, be educated and be inspired by the heritage and success of one of Cardiff’s great sporting hotspots. Let’s Walk Cymru and Outdoor Cardiff are proud partners of the history trail and are delighted to be able to help offer a new walking experience for all.”

Mark Frost, Glamorgan Cricket’s Community and Development Manager said “We are very keen to open the doors of our stadium to a wide range of community groups and want to encourage those who are on a journey back to good health, to consider this unique and absorbing route as an opportunity to get some low level exercise and get to know one of Cardiff’s jewels at the same time.”

You can make a booking for a group or individual visit on a non-match day, or to combine the walk with a full behind-the-scenes Stadium Tour (at £5 per person) by sending an email to museum@glamorgancricket.co.uk. Please note that you must book at least 72 hours in advance of your planned visit in order to check availability.
