All-rounder Jeremy Lawlor took his maiden Specsavers County Championship wickets as he helped bowl out Sussex for 327 on day 1 at Hove.
Lawlor ended with 3/59 but at the close of play he was very honest with his assessment of his bowling.
"It was a bit mixed kind of day to be honest," said Lawlor. "For me personally I was a bit disappointed but to be fair I had quite a lot of luck today.
"In general, from where we were at lunch and the way we brough it back in that middle session was good. Hogan and Carey bowled outstanding spells and I think it will be interesting tomorrow to see how we go. I think 300 from where we were we will probably take that.
"I've only really been bowling for two years and I'm learning all the time. I learnt a lot today just bowling three spells and I'm happy how I've come on but I think today I got pretty lucky and if I'm beng honest with myself I could have done a bit more."
