Reflections on 2016 - #5 Mark Wallace and Chris Cooke

5 Nov 2016 | Cricket
The next instalment in the series of weekly features looking back on some of the highpoints and personal milestones achieved during the 2016 season by Glamorgan players focusses on the achievements of the Club’s wicket-keepers Mark Wallace and Chris Cooke.

On two occasions last summer, Mark claimed nine dismissals in a Championship match to equal the Club record for the most number of dismissals in a first-class match by a Glamorgan wicket-keeper, reflecting his neat glovework as well as the probing and high quality nature of the Welsh county’s seam bowling attack.

Mark claimed nine dismissals in the games against Derbyshire at Colwyn Bay and against Worcestershire at New Road to equal the Club record held by Colin Metson who also took nine catches on two occasions - at Worcester in 1993 and also against Surrey at The Oval in 1995.

During the NatWest T20 Blast match against Surrey at The SSE SWALEC, Chris Cooke claimed a Club record five victims in an innings and equalled the competition record for the most number of dismissals in a Twenty20 match by a wicket-keeper.

Only six other wicket-keepers have claimed five victims in a domestic Twenty20 match - Matt Prior for Sussex v Middlesex at Richmond in 2006; Gerard Brophy for Yorkshire v Durham at Chester-le-Street in 2008; Ben Scott for Worcestershire v Yorkshire at Worcester in 2011; Gary Wilson for Surrey v Hampshire at The Kia Oval in 2014; Niall O'Brien for Leicestershire v Northamptonshire at Leicester in 2014, and John Simpson for Middlesex v Surrey at Lord's in 2014.
