The next instalment in the series of weekly features looking back on some of the highpoints and personal milestones achieved during the 2016 season by Glamorgan players focusses on the achievements of Nick Selman, who made his debut for Glamorgan in both formats of the game during the course of the summer.
After a series of promising innings in Championship cricket, Nick made his maiden first-class hundred against Northamptonshire at Swansea and in the process became the first Glamorgan batsman for a dozen years to carry his bat as he made an unbeaten 122.
The last Glamorgan batsman to achieve this feat was Matthew Elliott who made an unbeaten 77 against Hampshire at Sophia Gardens in 2004. The last Glamorgan batsman to score a century whilst carrying their bat was Alan Butcher who made 113* against Derbyshire at the Cardiff ground in 1987.
Nick then made a duck in the second innings of the match against Northants. The last batsman to carry their bat for a hundred and then score a duck in Championship cricket was the late Phil Hughes who scored 135* and 0 for Worcestershire against Warwickshire at Edgbaston in August 2012.
Further details about Nick’s career with Glamorgan and his achievements last summer will appear in the 2017 Glamorgan Yearbook, which is due to be published in March.
