The next instalment in the series of weekly features looking back on some of the highpoints and personal milestones achieved during the 2016 season by Glamorgan players focusses on the achievements of Colin Ingram who enjoyed a stellar season in white ball cricket last summer
Colin established records with the bat, ball and in the field during the NatWest T20 Blast with the South African-born batsman making a career-best 101* against the Essex Eagles at Chelmsford. During this innings, he equalled the competition record as his seasonal aggregate of sixes reached 29, bringing him level with West Indian Kieran Pollard who struck 29 sixes for Somerset in 2010, as well as fellow Caribbean star Chris Gayle for Somerset in 2015, together with Worcestershire’s Ross Whiteley and Sussex’s Luke Wright.
Colin’s unbeaten hundred against the Eagles was also the highest individual score for Glamorgan in the competition against Essex, beating Mark Cosgrove’s 89 at the same ground in 2010. His hundred came up in just 56 balls, making it the second fastest for Glamorgan in the competition, bettered only by Ian Thomas’ 50 ball century against Somerset at Taunton in 2004.
Colin’s seasonal aggregate of 502 runs was also the second highest ever for Glamorgan in Twenty20 cricket, surpassed only by Cosgrove’s tally on 562 runs in 2010. In the quarter-final match against the Yorkshire Vikings, he also returned career-best bowling figures of 4/32, besides taking his tenth catch of the season to surpass Alviro Petersen’s Club record of nine catches in the 2011 season.
As far as matches during the Royal London One-Day Cup were concerned in 2016, Colin also broke Viv Richards’ record for the most sixes in a season for Glamorgan in List A cricket. The West Indian legend had struck 17 sixes during 1992, but in 2016 Colin hit a total of 19.
