REWIND: England v Pakistan In Cardiff 2010

17 Aug 2016 | Cricket
England take on Pakistan in Cardiff on Sunday September 4 in the Royal London One-Day International Series. The last time the sides met in the Welsh capital was in 2010 for a T20 international double-header and England won both games comfortably.

After the controversy of the spot-fixing scandal involving Mohammad Amir, Salman Butt and Mohammad Asif, Pakistan finished their UK summer in Cardiff on September 5 and 7 looking to salvage something out of a disappointing tour.

But it was England who romped to victory, as Eoin Morgan's unbeaten 38 helped the hosts chase down 126 for victory in the first match.

The second match was a formality. Tim Bresnan, Ryan Sidebottom and Stuart Broad ran through the Pakistan order as the visitors were bowled all out for 89.

It was easily chased down by England in a mere 14 overs, despite a stutter at the top of the order which saw Craig Kieswetter, Steven Davies and Ravi Bopara all fall cheaply. Paul Collingwood steadied the ship with 21 and Morgan saw England through with 18*.

Morgan is the only survivor of that England side who will line up in Cardiff this year, with Umar Gul and Mohammad Hafeez returning for Pakistan.

The Cardiff crowd weren't treated to a contest in either match in 2010, but they might see a close call this year as England take their bold brand of white-ball cricket into the Royal London One-Day International Series. They will hope to continue their recent dominance in the 50-over game against Azhar Ali and Pakistan.
