England\'s Joe Root recalled his \'special\' memories of winning the first Investec Ashes Test in Cardiff last summer, while speaking to the media this afternoon.
Root, whose first innings century earned him the Man Of The Match Award in a memorable 169-run win for England to kickstart the series in front of packed crowds at The SSE SWALEC.
The 25-year-old was reminded of the victory when Glamorgan reset their scoreboard to the winning moment from the 2015 test and Root said it was 'a lovely touch' from the club.
"We didn't ask for it but it's a lovely touch by Glamorgan," he said.
"I remember that final catch (of the Ashes Test) coming to me – it was quite a surreal day and a special end to a really nice Test match. The ball I re-live the most is getting dropped by Haddin at the start of my innings."
Root went onto score 134 in the match, setting up a stunning England victory and the Yorkshireman was keen to repeat the feat at The SSE SWALEC against Sri Lanka tomorrow.
He added: "It was obviously quite significant in the series and that’s how sport goes I guess. It’s just about making sure those big misses count in your favour. Ideally you don't want to give any chances away but it’s not always that easy.
“We’ve got some great memories from Cardiff after the Ashes last summer. It’s always nice to re-live what was a really strong start to that series and it would be a fitting way to finish this series if we could do something similar in the final game tomorrow."
Root, Moeen Ali and Jos Buttler are the three England survivors from the that beat Australia last summer and will begin their search for another victory in South Wales from 10.30am tomorrow (Saturday) morning.
