Captain Jacques Rudolph will return for Glamorgan against Gloucestershire at Bristol tomorrow in place of Mark Wallace.
Wallace, who deputised as captain whilst Rudolph was on paternity, tore a calf muscle against Northants last week, so will miss the final game of the season, which means his 230-game consecutive Championship appearance record stretching back to 2001 will come to an end.
Chris Cooke took the gloves for the Northants game last week as the Welsh county drew their penultimate match of the season. In a rain-affected contest, North Walians David Lloyd and Dewi Penrhyn Jones starred with bat and ball respectively, as they steered Glamorgan through to the end of the fourth day with the game in the balance.
I feel very sorry for Wally, said Jacques, I'm staying with him at the moment and I find myself carrying coffees around his house because he is on crutches.
Mark has always been a great ambassador for Glamorgan and unfortunately he is going to miss out due to injury, but it allows for someone like myself to step back in, and we're blessed that we do have other senior players so we've got to make the most of it.
I've only been back in the UK since Friday and it is nice to catch up on some much needed rest, but there's another big game for us this week and it's signing off for the season as well.
I followed the game last week against Northamptonshire on the ECB app and the feedback I got from Chris Cooke who kept for Dewi was positive, which is a good sign for us, so it is good for him to get that opportunity and he will get another chance tomorrow and I've been very impressed with David Lloyd all season.
Lloydy hasn't bowled a lot in his life, but he has bowled some incredible spells for us this year and having had this last season from a bowling point of view will be very good for him going into next season. From a batting point of view at times this season in tough conditions he has shown character and he is a very talented cricketer so I hope he does well next year as well.
The difficulty with being in the Second Division is if you are not going for promotion and with no relegation, there's a few teams at this stage of the season and a lot of individuals who start taking their foot off the pedal a little bit. My message to the team tomorrow morning will be to sign off really well.
For where we want to go as a club and I've made it quite clear to the team where I want us to be in the next few years, it is important for the club to sign off really well. It will also reveal our character as individuals and as a team, so it is a very important game for us and it's not just a case that on Saturday the season is over, we've got to finish on a high.
Potentially if we can walk away with a win, we can take that confidence into the new season next year.
