Sunshine Coast coach Ashley Holznagel has praised the performance of Nick Selman after the opener\'s composed century propelled the team to a morale-boosting first innings win.
The Scorchers went into the penultimate round of the Queensland Premier Grade season languishing at the foot of the 12-team ladder but a five-wicket triumph over ninth-placed Redlands at Wellington Point has proved the side's potential.
"It's a huge confidence boost,” the coach said. "The boys have worked hard (this season) but we've just been inconsistent.”
The Scorchers restricted Redlands to 258 on day one of the two-day clash a week ago and then resumed at 0/45 on Saturday. Selman (103no), Alecz Day (58) and Kobi Grigg's (76) played significant roles to propel the team to its second first-innings win in 10 attempts this campaign.
"The bowlers did well last week against a really quality line-up and then for the batsmen to go and cross the runs off, it was quite satisfying to watch,” Holznagel said.
"There's no doubt this playing group has ability.”
Selman was at the crease for 254 balls and for more than five hours.
"He just played his game,” the coach said. "He played to his strengths and was prepared to bat time.”
"His hundred was testament to his great application and it was a good way for him to finish his time at the Scorchers this season.
