Match Preview

The two teams met last Friday night at Cardiff with Glamorgan racing to an emphatic victory by nine wickets after a dynamic performance in the field and the canny use of the powerplay overs had restricted the West Country side to 125/6 in their 20 over allocation.

Last Friday's low-scoring encounter at Cardiff was in stark contrast to the run-fests between the two teams in previous years at Taunton. Indeed, the game in 2012 saw a superb century by James Hildreth which laid the foundations of a Somerset victory, and all after an assertive innings of 85 by Australian Shaun Marsh for the Welsh side. 2011 saw Somerset record a five-wicket success, whilst in 2010 a brace of violent blows by West Indian Kieron Pollard tipped the balance in the home team's favour.

In fact, Glamorgan have only been victorious on one out of their nine visits to Taunton in the Twenty20 competition, with their sole victory coming in July 2004. In that contest, Ian Thomas cut to shreds the home attack as he posted a brilliant 116 - the only century in the competition by a Glamorgan batsman and, at the time, the highest-ever individual score any batsman had made in the competition.
