Stars from the world of cricket, rugby and acting take part in the Lords’ Taverner’s annual charity cricket day at The SSE SWALEC, in conjunction with children’s charity, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).

The event, sponsored by HSBC, saw two cricket matches take place on the day, one match with Ronald McDonald House Charities Vs National Suppliers (Saves) Team, and the other with Lord’s Taverners Vs Former International Rugby Legends.

The Lord’s Taverners line-up featured Ashes 2005 hero Simon Jones, former England paceman Andy Caddick, as well as Glamorgan legends Dean Cosker and Mike Powell.

The Rugby legends team included former international greats such as former Welsh internationals Martyn Williams and Rhys Williams, former England fly-half Rob Andrew, former All Black Xavier Rush, Rugby World Cup winner Paul Grayson and many more.

This year’s event has already raised more than £4,000, and the money raised will be divided between The Lord’s Taverners and RMHC, which is building a Ronald McDonald House at the University Hospital of Wales for the parents who need to be near their sick children.

Jon Haward, Executive Director, Ronald McDonald House Charities said “Our deepest thanks to all involved in organising this splendid day on and off the field.

“The players gave it their all and the guests dug deep to show their support for our first ever Ronald McDonald House accommodation in Wales.

“We were honoured to be in the presence of some true sporting greats, who helped give the event a real sense of occasion. All in all – a most memorable occasion.”

Lord’s Taverners Chairman Ed Meggitt, said “This was another great event for the Taverners, helping us raise more money to help give disabled and disadvantaged young people sporting chances.”
