Match Report: Tribe’s Double Century and Ingram’s Milestone as Glamorgan Draw with Northamptonshire

Glamorgan’s County Championship fixture against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road ended in a draw, with Asa Tribe’s career-best 206 and Colin Ingram’s 1,000th run of the season the standout moments for the visitors.

Batting first, Glamorgan recovered from early wickets thanks to Tribe’s exceptional innings. The 21-year-old shared a record sixth-wicket stand of 162 with Chris Cooke, who made 84 in his 150th first-class appearance for the club. Tribe became the youngest Glamorgan batter since Aneurin Donald in 2016 to score a double hundred in Championship cricket, eventually dismissed for 206 as the Welsh county posted 467 all out.

Northamptonshire responded strongly, with skipper Luke Procter and Ricardo Vasconcelos setting the platform before Saif Zaib produced a superb 144, blending orthodox strokes with innovation. Mason Crane led Glamorgan’s attack with four wickets, but Northants reached 412, ensuring the match remained finely balanced.

Weather interruptions on the third day reduced play, limiting Glamorgan’s chances of pressing for victory. On the final day, Colin Ingram struck a fluent 55, passing 1,000 first-class runs for the season, while Cooke added further runs before the declaration came at 241-7, setting Northants a notional target of 296. With time running out, both captains agreed to a draw.

The match showcased Glamorgan’s batting strength, highlighted by Tribe’s landmark double hundred – the first by a Jersey-born player in the Championship – and extended their unbeaten run in red-ball cricket. Glamorgan collected 14 points as their promotion chances get even higher, ahead of a big away game next week at Derbyshire, who sit 3rd in the Division 2 table, 27 points behind Glamorgan.
