(writes Andrew Hignell)
Dan Douthwaite returned match figures of 6/137 on his County Championship debut for Glamorgan at Derby – the best for 39 years by a debutant bowler. As the list below shows, only two bowlers have produced superior match figures during their first appearance in Championship cricket for the Welsh county:
Ezra Moseley 7/152 v Essex at Swansea, 1980
Jack Nash 6/131 v Sussex at Cardiff Arms Park, 1921
Dan’s efforts helped Glamorgan to a two-wicket victory, equaling the record for their narrowest winning margin batting last against the Peakites, having also won at Derby by that slender margin in 1952 – a time when the ground still had the vestiges of a racecourse (which had staged it's last races in 1939) with the wicket the other way round to what it is at present.
