Glamorgan’s six-wicket victory against Leicestershire this afternoon at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff was their 500th win in first-class cricket (writes Andrew Hignell)
It was their 36th victory in 147 matches against Leicestershire, with Somerset being the county they have defeated most often in first-class cricket having won 44 of the 152 contests against the West Country side. The Welsh county have also recorded 42 victories in 169 contests against Gloucestershire and 151 with Northamptonshire.
In all, Glamorgan have played 2305 first-class games, with their first victory coming in their inaugural County Championship match, against Worcestershire at Cardiff Arms Park in May 1921.
Their tally of matches also includes 778 defeats and 1026 draws, with the list below showing the other landmark victories during the Club’s proud and distinguished history as a first-class county:
100th victory – May 25th, 1948 v Somerset at Swansea, winning by an innings and 137 runs
200th victory – August 11th, 1959 v Gloucestershire at Cheltenham, winning by an innings and 38 runs
300th victory – June 12th, 1970 v Essex at Ilford, winning by 5 wickets
400th victory – September 11th, 1995 v Nottinghamshire at Sophia Gardens, winning by 189 runs
500th victory – May 8th, 2022 v Leicestershire at Sophia Gardens, winning by 6 wickets
