Vanessa Williams’ song “Save the Best for Last” , nominated for a Grammy Award for Song of the Year in 1991, would have been the perfect backdrop to Glamorgan’s innings against Hampshire at Sophia Gardens as the Welsh county ended a sequence of defeats by defeating the South Coast side by 28 runs.
In all, the Glamorgan batsmen struck 19 fours and 13 sixes as they powered their team to a total of 216-5 - the third highest in the Club’s history in the competition and the best-ever previously at their Cardiff headquarters.
For the record, the previous best totals have been:
240-3 v Surrey at The Oval, 2015
224-5 v Essex at Chelmsford, 2017
216-5 v Hampshire at Sophia Gardens, 2019
206-6 v Somerset at Taunton, 2006
201-6 v Gloucestershire at Sophia Gardens, 2018
