Sam Northeast re-wrote a series of records at Grace Road during Glamorgan’s LV=County Championship victory against Leicestershire. When the declaration came at lunch today he was unbeaten on 410* having beaten Steve James’ Club record of 309* and registering the third highest score in Championship history (writes Andrew Hignell)

On 283, Sam also completed his 1,00th run of the first-class season. He became the first Glamorgan batter to this landmark since Marnus Labuschagne on 2nd July 2019, and the first Englis-qualified since both Aneurin Donald and Will Bragg in September 2016. It was Sam’s 19th first-class innings of the summer and, as the list below shows, only seven batters have reached this landmark in fewer innings for the Welsh county:
