STAT ATTACK - The 2021 season so far........

6 Jun 2021 | Cricket

With red ball cricket taking a month’s break, it’s a good time to look at the season so far and the leading batting and bowling performances so far for Glamorgan in the LV=Insurance County Championship (writes Andrew Hignell).

Michael Neser, whose feisty second innings spell of reverse-swing helped to set up the stirring victory over Lancashire at Sophia Gardens, currently tops Glamorgan’s averages with 19 wickets at just 14.89 runs apiece.

His outstanding efforts also put him in fourth place in the national lists, with only Somerset’s Craig Overton (36 wickets @ 12.86), Nottinghamshire’s Luke Fletcher (37 wickets @ 13.40) and Sussex’s Ollie Robinson (29 wickets @ 14.72) ahead of him.

Kiran Carlson leads the batting lists with 580 runs at an average of 58.00. He has also passed 50 six times in thirteen innings with only Surrey’s Rory Burns, with seven scores of 50 or more, having been more productive in the Championship competition.

Kiran’s tally of 580 runs is also his best-ever in a season, with only eight other batsmen elsewhere having scored more runs, with the batting lists led by Durham’s David Bedingham who has 787 runs to his name.

David Lloyd has also topped the 500-run mark, with the Club’s vice-captain having 539 runs to his name so far in first-class cricket this summer. Like Kiran, David can set his sights on topping the 1,000 run landmark by the end of the summer – a feat last achieved by Marnus Labuschagne in 2019 with Will Bragg and Aneurin Donald being the last homegrown players to score 1,000 runs, both during the 2016 season.
