19 Aug 2022 | Cricket

Tom Bevan’s maiden one-day hundred saw Glamorgan to a seven-wicket victory in their Royal London Cup game at Neath, with young batter creating a series of records.

He reached his fifty from 49 balls by pulling Jack Campbell for a six into the Pavilion before also reaching his hundred in the grand manner by pulling Currie for another six over the pavilion to reach his century from 88 balls. In all, he struck nine sixes, which as the list below shows, was one short of the Club record in an innings in a List A game, set by Alviro Petersen at Colwyn Bay in 2011, but tyhe most-ever by a home=grown player in List A cricket for Glamorgan.

10 by AN Petersen v Lancashire at Colwyn Bay, 2011.
8 by CB Cooke v Gloucestershire at Bristol, 2019.
8 by CA Ingram v Essex at Sophia Gardens, 2017 and v Kent at Swansea, 2017.
7 by MP Maynard v Surrey at The Oval, 1997.

It was the first-ever List A hundred for Glamorgan at Neath and came during a stand of 203 in 27.1 overs with Colin Ingram with their efforts being one short of the all-time Club record for the second wicket in List A cricket made by Steve James and Adrian Dale in the NatWest Trophy game against Lincolnshire at Swansea in 1994.

It was though the best-ever against a first-class team, beating the 174 added by Hugh Morris and Matthew Maynard against Essex at Chelmsford in the Sunday League game in 1996. The previous best against Hampshire by Glamorgan for the second wicket had been the 145 added by Hugh Morris and Tony Cottey in the Benson and Hedges Cup game at Southampton in 1989 and by Matthew Wood and Michael Powell in the Friends Provident Trophy game at Sophia Gardens in 2008.
