Usman Khawaja has enjoyed a run-laden start to his county career with Glamorgan besides erasing the name of Javed Miandad – his father’s cricketing idol – from some of the Club’s records.
This afternoon against Northamptonshire at Sophia Gardens, Usman scored his third hundred in as many matches for the Club, therefore becoming the first Glamorgan batsman to score a century in each of their first three Championship matches. The previous best had been set by Javed Miandad in 1980 who scored centuries in his first two Championship games for the Welsh county, making 140 and 67 against Essex at Swansea, followed by 33 and 141 against Gloucestershire at Bristol before being dismissed for a couple of single figure scores in his next appearance.
Having scored a hundred in the second innings against Derbyshire and now one in the first innings against Northamptonshire, Usman could emulate the achievements of Javed Miandad if he makes another hundred in the second innings of the current game, as well as being the first Glamorgan batsman for 21 years to achieve the feat, last achieved in Championship-winning season by Steve James, coincidentally also in the game against the East Midlands side.
The list below shows the Glamorgan batsmen to have scored three hundreds in successive innings in Championship cricket with Javed achieving the feat in 1981 - his second summer with the Welsh county.
