After their comfortable seven-wicket victory over the Essex Eagles at Cardiff, Glamorgan head to The Oval for their next match in the Vitality Blast with the T20 match against Surrey starting at 1830 on Monday, 14 June (writes Andrew Hignell)
The Welsh county have a fine record in T20 cricket at The Oval having won six of the seven completed games against Surrey at their South London headquarters, with the contest in 2011 having been washed out.
Their most recent victory on Surrey soil came at The Oval in 2018 when the Welsh county chased down a target of 194 with an over to spare and all despite losing Colin Ingram to a viral illness on the eve of the game. The previous year Aneurin Donald had also struck 76 before Marchant de Lange claimed 3/29 with Michael Hogan then delivering a wily final over to stifle a late fightback as Glamorgan won by six runs.
Surrey however have been victorious in the last three meetings between the two teams, as shown in the list below of their last six fixtures in the T20 competition:
July 28th, 2017 at Cardiff - Match Abandoned
August 4th, 2017 at The Oval - Glamorgan won by 6 runs
July 31st, 2018 at The Oval - Glamorgan won by 4 wickets
August 17th, 2018 Cardiff - Surrey won by 24 runs
July 25th, 2019 at The Oval - Surrey won by 97 runs
Aug 11th, 2019 at Cardiff - Surrey won by 7 wickets
Amongst the highlights of Glamorgan’s T20 matches at The Oval was the 25-run victory in 2015 with Colin Ingram blasting an imperious 91. This remains the highest individual score for Glamorgan in all T20 matches against Surrey with his batting pyrotechnics allowing the Welsh county them to post a competition-best total of 240-3 – a mammoth total and in stark contrast to their more modest total of 44 in their most recent visit to The Oval in 2019.
As far as bowling performances are concerned, Glamorgan’s best-ever efforts came from Timm van der Gugten who in 2016 returned the analysis on 4/14 on his T20 debut for the Welsh county.
