Match Preview

Last week, the Welsh county secured three points out of a possible four following the victory on Thursday at Richmond plus the washout the following night at the SWALEC Stadium. These efforts elevated the Glamorgan side into fourth spot in the table with 11 points and with results elsewhere going their way, they are now three points ahead of Gloucestershire and the Sussex Sharks.

The victory by the Essex Eagles last Friday night over Surrey saw them soar above Hampshire to top the group table with 16 points, whilst the South Coast outfit - after a defeat to Somerset on Sunday afternoon - remain in second spot with 14 points with Surrey in third place, and a game in hand, with 12 points.

The next fortnight is a pivotal time in the competition for Glamorgan who have four remaining group matches, meeting Surrey on Friday evening and the following Friday the Essex Eagles at Cardiff, with both of their opponents currently lying above them. Glamorgan also have games against two teams below them - the Sussex Sharks at Hove and then Gloucestershire in the final group match at the SWALEC Stadium.

Glamorgan and Surrey have already met in the NatWest T20 Blast this season with the English side winning at the SWALEC Stadium by 17 runs. The Welsh county have played twice before in a Twenty20 game at The Oval, with Glamorgan winning the game in July 2010 by five wickets after Tom Maynard had posted an imperious 78. The game the following July however was washed out so Jim Allenby and his team will be looking to maintain their unbeaten Twenty20 record at Surrey's headquarters as they press for a quarter-final place in this year's competition.
