Surrey v Glamorgan: RL50 Head-to-Head

31 Jul 2016 | Cricket
Glamorgan complete their programme of group matches in the Royal London One-Day Cup with a visit to The Kia Oval to meet Surrey on Monday, August 1st, with the day-night contest getting underway at 2.00pm.

Glamorgan were victorious in their most recent List A game on Surrey soil, winning in 2014 at Guildford by three wickets after Will Bragg and Murray Goodwin had each posted assertive half-centuries as Glamorgan reached their target of 307 with three wickets in hand.

However, Surrey won the most recent one-day match between the two sides at The Kia Oval, winning the contest in 2012 by 93 runs. In that match in 2012 Matthew Spriegel top-scored for Surrey with a forceful half-century before Gareth Batty claimed 3/4 as Surrey eased to a comfortable victory.

In 2009, Glamorgan were also on the losing side in a floodlit contest at the same ground as Stewart Walters struck a forthright 67 to see Surrey to an eight wicket victory in a contest which had been badly affected by rain.

Whilst Glamorgan have a good record in Twenty20 match at the Kia Oval, Glamorgan’s most recent success in a List A match at the ground came in April 2004 when a superb opening spell by Michael Kasprowicz and Andrew Davies reduced the home side to 36/7 after they had decided to bat first. Matthew Elliott and Michael Powell then posted vibrant half-centuries as the Welsh county cruised to their target of 147 in the 23rd over to record a seven-wicket victory.
