The team that has bowled first has seemed to be in it - Lloyd

Glamorgan Captain David Lloyd was pleased with the performance of his side after they registered a 6-wicket win against Leicestershire in the LV= County Championship.

Lloyd smashed a quickfire 36 to break the back of a small total of 150 set by the visiting side. This after Glamorgan had bowled their counterparts out for 266 on the final day to set up their second win of the season, and propel them to second in the table of Division Two of the County Championship.

"As Sunday's go it was probably the perfect day," said Lloyd.

"A great performance from the lads this week. A tough four days, but the amount of effort they put in throughout the whole four days was a credit to them.

"They obviously got off to a good start in the first couple of sessions, but I think the way we responded to that was really good. From then I thought we really put in a professional display. When they built partnerships, we didn’t get carried away or drop our heads. We stuck at it and got wickets at the right times.

“Looking back now the decision to bowl first was the right one. Looking at the games here this season so far, the teams that have bowled first have seemed to be in it. Maybe there wasn’t as much this game, but we gave ourselves a chance.

“We knew whatever they posted we would have to try and get more to get into the driving seat, which we did. I thought the way we batted that first innings to get a hundred run lead was very good, and from then on we did some really good things.

“Credit to them, the way they batted on day four. They came out and played nicely, and at one point it looked like they were going to keep going. The bowlers stuck at it, and us as a fielding group as well. All the hard work paid off in the end.

“I feel good. In those smaller chases, you want to get things going, you don’t want to start slow and lose a couple of wickets. It was always our intent to look to be positive and make their heads drop a bit. The way Sammy batted at the end was really pleasing.”
