Cardiff Met graduate Tom Turner has been appointed Glamorgan CCC Strength & Conditioning Coach.
Originally from Wadebridge in Cornwall, Tom studied Sport & Physical Education at Glamorgan's Development Programme University partner Cardiff Met, before gaining Strength & Conditioning Masters from the same institution. Tom has been working with Glamorgan Development players for two years and has stepped up to working with the first-team following Rob Ahmun's move to ECB in August.
Tom, 23, said: I was over the moon to get the phone call and be appointed Glamorgan S&C Coach. In my previous role I worked with the younger players in the Academy and assistant to the first team, so I'm now stepping up to take on the role with the senior boys full-time. Having worked with them, I've had a great insight into where the boys are already and I know where I want to take us forward.
It's now about getting the continuity throughout the Club, from the development programme players through to the senior staff. Every player out there is an individual in what they do on the field and that is the same in the gym, so this winter the plan is to strip it back and take the players through some generic fitness early on and then specific programmes for each player after Christmas targeting specific areas for each player.
I was fortunate enough with my Masters at Cardiff Met to get on to the internship at Glamorgan, which was a great experience for me working for Rob Ahmun. I put in plenty of hours to it, which are paying back now and it provided fantastic experience, as well as linking up well with my course. It helped me develop two-fold doing the internship, alongside the Masters at Cardiff Met.
