Van der Gugten Gunning For Home Quarter-Final

Timm van der Gugten has promised Glamorgan will be going all-out for a home-quarter final by making The SSE SWALEC \'a fortress\' against rivals Somerset tomorrow night (7pm start).

The Dutchman, who was rested for Glamorgan's four-wicket win over Derbyshire at Colwyn Bay, is fit and firing ready for his return on Friday night – when a victory could seal a quarter-final spot for the Welsh county.

Van der Gugten has taken 16 wickets in this season's NatWest T20 Blast – the third most wickets of any bowler in the country – and the 25-year-old is keen to recapture his best form against Somerset.

He admitting he was loving life in county cricket with Glamorgan.

"I’m loving it here," he said. "Playing lots of cricket is something I’m not used to – I didn’t get the chance to do it back in Australia – it’s different but it’s good. It's my job so I want to play as much as possible.

"It’s a big game tomorrow. I think if we win, we’re closer to securing a home quarter-final which would be great. I think we’re also expecting a pretty big crowd tomorrow so it’d be great to see the Glamorgan fans come and cheer us on and help us get a win.

"We want to make The SSE SWALEC a fortress and we’ve done that this season, apart from our last game which we did unfortunately lose.

"But before that, teams were dreading coming down here so if we can make a home quarter-final, it’ll be tough for the visiting team to get one up on us."

Van der Gugten also spared praise for teammate Aneurin Donald, who smashed a record-equalling 234 from 135 balls earlier this week, as Glamorgan clinched their first County Championship victory of the season.

Although he didn't play in the match, van der Gugten was delighted for the 19-year-old and the rest of the triumphant Glamorgan side.

He added: "I had the week off but I was still following the boys and it was great to see ‘The Don’ equalling the quickest 200 in first class history and to see them wrap up the game on the fourth and final day was great. It was a well-deserved win."

Van der Gugten, alongside Colin Ingram, is set to return to the Glamorgan squad for the match.
