The ECB has today announced that the IT20 between England and Pakistan on Monday, 31 August will no longer take place at Sophia Gardens.
With stringent bio-security measures necessary for international cricket this season, the ECB have taken the decision that these measures are to be implemented at a select few international venues across the UK. Therefore, this particular fixture will be relocated from Sophia Gardens to Emirates Old Trafford. The three Vitality IT20s will now take place, behind closed doors, on Friday 28 August, Sunday 30 August and the final match of the tour on Tuesday 1 September.
England have previously won all six of their IT20 games in Cardiff, and the ground has hosted over 40 international fixtures since the 1999 Cricket World Cup. England will be returning to Sophia Gardens twice in 2021 with two white-ball international fixtures scheduled to be held at the stadium.
Ticket holders will be given a choice to either credit their account for a future fixture (to the value of their ticket), or to receive a full refund. Ticket holders will have until Friday 7 August to inform the Club of their preference, and refunds will begin from Tuesday 7 July to be processed by Monday 31 August.
Hugh Morris, Chief Executive at Glamorgan Cricket, said: “It is undoubtedly disappointing that we cannot host our eagerly-anticipated IT20 between England and Pakistan due to the current public health situation.
“We fully understand and agree with ECB’s decision to host international games in the safest possible environment and look forward to these games capturing the imagination of cricket fans across England and Wales.
“We are delighted to confirm that we are still due to host two white-ball internationals in 2021, so we look forward to providing a warm Welsh welcome to all who wish to watch some of the world’s greatest players here at Sophia Gardens next year .”
