On the hottest day of the tour so far for the Glamorgan Development Programme Dubai tourists, the Welsh county representatives were fortunate to be asked to bat after losing the toss against AVS Sport from South Africa.
After Sam Pearce was dismissed early Joe Voke (56) and Steff Roberts (68) put together an excellent partnership of 113 for the 2nd wicket.
This stand laid the platform for the rest of the batsmen to attack going into the last 10 overs of our innings and Kiran Carlson 45 of 31 balls and Scott Thornton 22n.o. of 15 balls finished the innings off in style scoring 89 runs off the last 10 overs. Glamorgan DP Total 237 for 6 (Overs 40.0)
Our opening bowlers of Luke Cheshire and Ollie Pike started very well and only 10 runs were conceded in the first 6 overs, this pressure brought a reward for Cheshire getting his first Glamorgan wicket when he bowled Ivan for 1.
After falling behind early on two good partnerships of 70 and 76 for the next 2 wickets brought AVS back into the game. They went into the last 10 overs needing 110 to win with 7 wickets in hand and although a tough ask they were playing with good intent and we had a game on our hands.
However an excellent spell of 5 overs 4 for 30 by Sam Pearce in the last 10 overs swung the game our way and we went on to win the game by 28 runs with AVS finishing o 209 for 8.
It was an excellent first outing for the boys and for December they acquitted themselves very well. We have a quiet day tomorrow with a beach recovery session in the morning and then the boys will have their first chance to see the sights and sounds of Abu Dhabi with their first bit of time off after 3 hard days of training.
