Glamorgan County Cricket Club is seeking a volunteer to act as a Digitisation Assistant to help with work in the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket, which is based at the Club’s headquarters within the National Cricket Centre at The SSE SWALEC in Cardiff.
Thanks to grant funding, the Club is undertaking a Digitisation Project of its collection. This is a key element of the process which Museum staff and other volunteers are currently undertaking as part of the pathway to secure full accreditation from MALD and the Arts Council.
The Digitisation Project will involve scanning and photographing the items in the Club’s core collection, the bulk of which is held in store at Glamorgan Archives, adjacent to the Cardiff City Stadium in Leckwith. Other items, including those recently loaned or donated to the Club are held in the recently completed Museum Store at The SSE SWALEC.
It is envisaged that the volunteer would work at both locations, with the work also involving inputting data in either written or electronic format into the Museum’s catalogue. The Volunteer would work under the direction of Dr. Andrew Hignell (the Museum’s Curator and Club Archivist), and would be part of a team of volunteers who are assisting with other aspects of the cataloguing process and the creation of an accession register.
A free-of-charge training course on digitisation will be available for the successful applicant(s) in early January. Experience of photography and other IT-related work, including scanning is essential, whilst knowledge of cricket however is not essential. The working hours are flexible and this voluntary work could be undertaken on a full-time or part-time basis.
The closing date for applications is 5pm on Thursday, December 21st.
Anyone who is interested in applying should contact Dr. Andrew Hignell on museum@glamorgancricket.co.uk or ring 02920 419383.
