We can bounce back - Wallace

23 Jun 2015 | Cricket
After last Sunday's 10 wicket defeat to Sussex, Mark Wallace believes that Glamorgan will bounce back on Friday when Surrey come to town and give a performance that will be a lot better and hopefully see Glamorgan return to winning ways.
Yeah we weren't at the races today and in all honesty we got an absolute stuffing. The 20/20 format can be like that and it doesn't necessarily reflect what is going to happen in future games, we've been playing some good cricket in this competition and we play Surrey on Friday and we will certainly be a lot better

On a day that it didn't go to plan with bat or ball, Wallace believes that Sussex's faster assessment of the conditions helped them gain the upper hand early doors in the game and thus produce such a dominant display.

We were 20/5 with the bat and there is a long way back from there. They bowled well up front and assessed the conditions quicker than us. We had to be aggressive with the ball and take wickets and that gave them more opportunities to score runs. The scorecard doesn't lie and it ugly reading for us.

Sussex's opening pair of Nash and Wright made little work of the 116 runs to win and reached the total in just 12.3 overs with both demonstrating their recognised destructive stroke play in the process. Wallace was quick to note that posting a very below par score against a team that possesses the players like Wright was always going to be difficult to defend.

They are a good side they have match winning players like Luke Wright who's an international quality 20/20 cricketer who's played all around the world. Someone like him who you give an opportunity and a small score and he can make you look a little silly

Despite the disappointing result Wallace highlighted the need to move on quickly and get the remaining 4 wins he believes will see Glamorgan progress to the quarter final stage.

We have 4 wins now and I think another 4 wins and it should get us into the quarter finals. We've been playing some good cricket but we have a had a few games where it hasn't quiet gone right. So we need to focus on the games that we have played well in and focus on the things that also haven't quite gone right either and we are certainly capable of getting through

One of the positives to take away from the game was Chris Cooke's 45 off 42 balls which demonstrated the batsman ability to graft out an innings when the team needed one and Wallace was quick to praise this.
Chris is a very very good player and showed that he isn't a player who just whacks it around very quickly but can graft as well which he did today and will take a lot from that innings

Before Glamorgan have a chance to rectify the defeat in the NatWest T20 blast competition they firstly must now turn their attention to the 4 day Division 2 County Championship match at the Swalec against a very beatable Leicestershire side. Wallace is confident about the week ahead and keen to move on from the display against Sussex

We have a championship game in between which is a big big game for us as we've been playing very well in the championship so we will take a little bit of time to analysis this game probably try and forget a lot of it. On Friday night we will then turn our attention to surrey, we absolutely hammered them the first game of the season so if we can put in a similar performance on Friday night we will certainly be back on track.

Glamorgan go into the game against Leicestershire on the back of 3 straight wins in the County Championship and remain the only side in the league unbeaten. Wallace is in confident mood ahead of the game and believes Waggs phenomenal 200 against Surrey has raised the bar even more in the camp and believes the season ahead has no limits to what they can achieve.

Yeah well we back ourselves to beat anyone in the championship this season we are playing some really really good cricket. We played really well up in Guildford, we bowled well and we batted well. Seeing Wagg getting 200 was fantastic and all the boys seeing him get 200 will be thinking if he can do it then I can do it as well and that's raised the bar a little bit. Leicestershire are a much improved side and Cosgrove coming back to Glamorgan who's a favourite so they will be a tough side

We can achieve success on all the fronts. Touch wood we don't have many injuries at the moment which is great because when your squad starts to get thin you have to prioritise but we aren't in that position at the moment and we can push on in all comps.
