Glamorgan Head Coach Robert Croft made it clear his side won’t be taking Gloucestershire lightly, ahead of their Specsavers County Championship clash starting on Sunday.
Croft, whose side have lost two and drawn two in their opening four matches, are searching for a win to kickstart their 2016 four-day campaign.
And Gloucestershire, having lost one and drawn three so far this season, are in a similar position to the Welsh county with 11 points separating the sides in Division Two.
Croft said: “Gloucestershire are a good side. I think for a long time they’ve used that ‘underdog’ tag very well but that’s gone now, people know Gloucester are a good team.
“They fed off that tag and people took them lightly, but that’s not something we’ll be doing.”
“Their coaches Richard Dawson and Ian Harvey have good work ethics and they’ll be doing everything they can to get up and running with a win.”
The Welsh coach reiterated his confidence – despite a slow start – that Glamorgan could turn around their fortunes this season.
He added: “I have got belief in these boys. They’re doing things right, they’re practising hard and we hope with that type of work ethic and attention to detail, things come round for us.”
Croft is likely to name a similar side to the one which drew against Worcestershire earlier in the week, with Andrew Salter and Harry Podmore both in contention to return to the side.
The Glamorgan Head Coach admitted rotation was a possibility as Glamorgan enter a busy period of the season, with the NatWest T20 Blast around the corner.
Croft added: “We haven’t had a chance, Jacques (Rudolph) Hugh (Morris) and I, to discuss options yet.
“But we’re mindful that we’ve now had four games on the bounce and there might come a point where we rotate the odd player or two to ensure people are fresh.”
Croft also confirmed that South African batsman Colin Ingram – out with a knee injury – was unlikely to return before Glamorgan’s T20 Blast opener against Surrey on May 26.
“We’re pretty much looking at getting him ready for the T20 competition,” said Croft.
“That’s where it’s at and for the sake of two Championship games, that would be a bit too ambitious. The goal is to get him right for the T20s.”
Glamorgan's County Championship match versus Gloucestershire gets underway at 11am on Sunday.
