Consultant batting coach, Mathew Maynard is delighted with the start made by Glamorgan in the Vitality Blast.
The Welsh county currently sit with two wins from three after a dramatic last gasp win against Essex Eagles on Friday night.
Maynard paid special tribute to Chris Cooke, whose innings of 60 from just 29 balls saw Glamorgan over the line.
“In T20 cricket a stand out performance from any individual can really change a game, obviously we saw that last Friday night down in Chelmsford with Chris Cooke,” said Maynard. “It was a fantastic innings by him to take it deep and hit the winning runs.
“It was a great result – there was a little bit of a panic in the middle when we lost a couple of wickets but Cookie was very mature and showed his class.
“We have a number of players who can play like that style of innings and that’s the exciting thing and hence why we’ve done so well in recent years.”
Glamorgan face local rivals Somerset tonight, a team Maynard knows well after a three-year coaching spell with them which ended last year.
The club’s leading century maker is hoping the side can continue their fine T20 form against Somerset and thrill a large Sophia Gardens crowd.
“They are a dangerous side but as we are,” said Maynard. “They will come full of confidence. They had a good win here last year in the 50 over competition but in T20 we’ve just had the nod over them the last couple of years so we hope to continue that run.
“It’s going to be a brilliant crowd and we’re playing a really exciting method of cricket. We’ve had one match here already and had a terrific crowd and hopefully we’ll put on a show for them.”
