Wicketkeeper Wallace's Championship Appearance Record Ended

Mark Wallace's 14-year run of consecutive County Championship appearances for Glamorgan will come to an end after he tore his left calf against Northamptonshire last week, an injury which will see him sit out the rest of the current season alongside Kieran Bull and Ruaidhri Smith.
Wallace sustained the injury whilst batting against Northamptonshire's Olly Stone, with the acting Glamorgan captain, unbeaten at the time on 27, pulling up abruptly after taking a couple of steps out of his crease as he attempted a quick single.

After treatment from Glamorgan physiotherapist Mark Rausa, the long-serving wicket-keeper was helped off the field, together with the assistance of the 12th man Jeremy Lawlor.

Mark Wallace will miss the final game of the season and will be out of action for at least six weeks as he has a substantial gastrocnemius tear, reported Mark Rausa.

Wally joins Kieran Bull and Ruaidhri Smith on the treatment table, although Ruaidhri is due to start in rehab in the next couple of weeks so should be back for the start of pre-season.

Wallace was playing his 249th first-class match and 230th successive championship match for the Welsh county in a sequence which runs back to June 13, 2001 when he was a late call-up to replace the unwell Adrian Shaw behind the stumps in Glamorgan's match against Kent at Maidstone.

I've torn a calf, a bit of an old man's injury - it was not a great day for me after I got a heavy blow in the box as well, said Wallace.

I'd just managed to recover from that and managed to blow a calf. These things happen.

I'm probably due an injury to be fair. I would have taken 230 games in a row when I got called up to go to Maidstone in 2001, so I can't really grumble.

Glamorgan will play their final game of the season against Gloucestershire in a four-day match at Bristol. The new Royal London One-Day Cup winners enjoyed a nail-biting finish against Surrey at Lord's in the final last Saturday, with BBC Wales pundit Geraint Jones finishing his career in the best possible fashion for the West Country outfit.
