Yorkshire Without Travis Head For Quarter-Final

Yorkshire Vikings have been dealt a blow ahead of Thursday\'s NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final against Glamorgan, after overseas batsman Travis Head was called up by Australia for their tour of Sri Lanka.

The 22-year-old, who starred in Yorkshire's run to the quarter-finals, has been drafted into the Australia Test squad after Steve Smith's side went 2-0 down to Sri Lanka. Head will now remain with Australia ahead of the upcoming ODI series between the sides.

It means he won't be available for Thursday's quarter-final, with England Test trio Joe Root, Gary Ballance and Jonny Bairstow all on national duty, with their fourth Test against Pakistan getting underway on Thursday at The Kia Oval. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid could also be involved with England in South London.

Yorkshire, who are also seeking a third successive County Championship title, are also in the last eight of the Royal London Cup, had planned for Head's involvement until the end of the season.

Yorkshire CCC Director of Cricket, Martyn Moxon said: “We would like to thank Travis for his efforts while with the Club, albeit for a much shorter period than we’d have liked. Travis is undoubtedly a real talent and has much to offer the game going forward. On behalf of the Club I would like to wish him well in his endeavours.

“Although the timing is not ideal, it now affords an opportunity to another member of the playing group and our focus is firmly on Thursday’s NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final against Glamorgan in Cardiff.”

Head joined Yorkshire last month and scored 113 runs in four NatWest T20 Blast appearances and 277 in four Royal London One-Day Cup matches.
