Yorkshires Route To The T20 Blast Quarter-Finals

1 Aug 2016 | Cricket
Yorkshire Vikings booked themselves a tie with Glamorgan by finishing third in the NatWest T20 Blast North Group, here we take a look at the Vikings\' crucial victories and the dangers they could pose to Glamorgan come quarter-final night on Thursday August 11.

JULY 1: Yorkshire Beat Rivals Lancashire By 5 Runs

Despite compiling a modest 141/7 at Headingley in the much-hyped 'Game Of Roses', Yorkshire's bowling unit stunted the Red Rose reply and the hosts claimed a memorable win in front of a rowdy Leeds crowd. Kane Williamson (28) and Jack Leaning (29) made starts but Will Rhodes' quickfire 24 off 14 balls set up a respectable total. Steve Patterson and Tim Bresnan then ripped through the Lancashire batting order, as the visitors fell five runs short of the win. Adam Lyth took a magnificent catch in the deep in one of the game's most memorable moments.

JULY 10: Yorkshire Win Nail-Biter By 1 Run Against Durham

Another close-fought contest, but Yorkshire managed another win. Adil Rashid took 3/20 as Derbyshire's top order crumbled from a winning position, to falling one run short of Yorkshire's 166. Kane Williamson smote 66 to help Yorkshire to a decent total and the bowlers did the job once more. Yorkshire had their England trio – Rashid, Liam Plunkett and David Willey – back in the side and it showed. The win proved pivotal in helping the Vikings secure qualification.

JULY 29: Yorkshire Win in Front Of Sky Sports Cameras To Seal Last Eight Tie

Needing a win to guarantee quarter-final qualification, Yorkshire saw off the competitive challenge of Northamptonshire at Wantage Road – but their margin of victory wasn't enough to earn a home quarter-final. Yorkshire won by 14 runs to book a last eight tie with Glamorgan in Cardiff, after Alex Lees and Jack Leaning struck half-centuries. Northants skipper Alex Wakely hit 64 but it was all in vein as Yorkshire's bowlers romped home once more. Bresnan finished with astonishing figures of 4-0-15-3.
