Head coach Matt Maynard has named a 14-man squad for Glamorgan’s Vitality Blast match against Surrey at the Kia Oval tomorrow night (Thursday).
Overseas signing Fakhar Zaman is the only addition to the squad having arrived in Wales earlier today having overcome his visa issues and is expected to make his debut for the club, subject to medical clearance.
The Welsh county have a strong T20 record against Surrey at the Kia Oval, with six wins and a no result from seven matches and are currently on a five match win streak at the ground.
Last year, Glamorgan win a thrilling encounter by chasing down 194 in front of the Sky cameras. Kiran Carlson struck a maiden T20 half-century, while Graham Wagg took 1/21 and scored 46 not out to steer Glamorgan to victory.
Glamorgan currently sit in 8th place in the South Group with a loss and a no result from their opening two fixtures.
All-rounder David Lloyd has opened the batting and top scored for the Welsh county in both matches. The north Walian is happy with his form during the early stages of the competition and believes there is much more to come from Glamorgan’s battling line-up in this year’s Vitality Blast following a couple of disappointing displays.
“We haven’t really put that perfect innings together yet with the bat,” said Lloyd.
“We have showed some good signs, obviously the first game we got off to a great start but unfortunately for some reason we didn’t capitalise on that. Probably, looking back, 180 wasn’t enough.
“In the second game we were quite lucky for the rain to come in, it was a tricky surface and they bowled well. It’s been nice to have a few days away and think about things and regroup.
“I feel good. I’ve come back up the order after batting four last year, and that’s something I enjoy. As long as I’m playing, I don’t really mind where I bat. But it is obviously pleasing.”
Surrey have lost both their matches in the competition this year, but despite Glamorgan possessing a strong record again the home side, Lloyd says they won’t take them for granted.
“It’s a big game Thursday and we are looking forward to playing at a packed house at the Oval.
“We always seem to perform there. Obviously, we don’t want to go there thinking we are going to win already so we need to be on our game from ball one. It’s a good chance for some of the boys to show what they have really got, and as I’ve said over the last few years we have done well there.
“It’s exciting to play in front of a full house and that really ups your game.”
