Glamorgan CCC have appointed Richard Almond to the new role of Head of Talent Development for the Welsh county.
The position provides Almond with the responsibility for managing the identification and development of the most talented young male and female cricketers in Wales.
The Glamorgan development programme objectives are to identify, select and develop the next generation of First Class and International cricketers. As such, the programme will aspire to providing an oversupply of home-grown cricket talent capable of succeeding for Glamorgan and England.
Hugh Morris, Chief Executive and Director of Cricket said, I'm delighted to confirm the appointment of Richard Almond to the key post of Head of Talent Development. The role will focus on the personal and professional development of our most talented young players up to their selection for the professional playing staff.
The role is central to our strategy of identifying and developing young Welsh cricketers, and Richard will work with a number of partners including schools, Clubs, coaches and sports science and medicine practitioners in ensuring these players have the necessary support and challenge to achieve their potential.
Richard Almond commented, This is an exciting opportunity for me to work with the best young players in Wales and to help produce the future stars for Glamorgan CCC. I enjoy a positive working relationship with Toby Radford, and with the Wales age grade coaching staff. I have no doubt we have some outstanding talent in Wales, and by focusing more time and effort of their development, we can create a successful Glamorgan team and successful international players.
As a result of this new appointment, Steve Watkin will be responsible for Coaching the Glamorgan 2nd XI, as well as continuing his duties as fast bowling coach for the County, whilst Robert Croft will retain his role as Assistant Coach for 1st XI and responsibilities for the development of all spin bowlers at the Club.
