T20 Blast Preview Glamorgan v Essex & Sussex

18 Jun 2015 | Cricket
After winning their last three games in the NatWest T20 Blast, Glamorgan will complete a hectic week for county cricket with the first of their two games this weekend against Essex at the ECG.
Looking ahead to the trip to Chelmsford, former captain, now assistant Coach Robert Croft said, it can be a daunting experience on a Friday night going to Essex.

They are great supporters of their home team, but rarely applaud the opposition and our job will be to silence them by playing better cricket- indeed we are looking forward to the challenge.

Essex will provide formidable opposition with a team that includes experienced international cricketers.

You have Jesse Ryder, one of the most destructive hitters in the game, continued Croft, Ravi Bopara is a top rate one-day player, while we all know how James Foster can finish an innings.

Obviously, we will do our homework on them but-to use the old cliché- we need to concentrate on our own game and not worry too much about the opposition.

The game is likely to be a high scoring contest played on a good batting pitch with small boundaries, with the home team chasing down Glamorgan's 190 target to win with two balls to spare last year.

Glamorgan's performances have improved recently since they formed a new batting combination of Jacques Rudolph and Craig Meschede at the top of the order.

It's always an advantage to have a right and left hander opening the innings in one-day cricket, says Croft.
Craig's ability to attack from the start has paid dividends. His aggressive approach has enabled Rudolph to pace his innings and the captain is currently averaging 75 in the competition with an unbeaten century and two fifties from the six opening games.

The second game on Sunday will be at home against Sussex, the team Rudolph scored 169 not out against in the 50 over competition last season. This sublime performance is the highest by a Glamorgan batsman in List A cricket, and a successful weekend of T20 Blast cricket will take Glamorgan a step nearer to the quarter-finals for a second successive season.

Match tickets are available for the game priced £15 for adults, £5 for juniors or a family ticket for 4 is priced £35. Contact the ticket office for more information on 02920 419 311 or to book tickets online click here
